Midyear a star in Star Trek flick

Well I never new that the young James Kirk had an affection for midyear Corvettes. The new movie opened with a young Kirk "borrowing" a midyear and taking it for a joyride in the desert. Whats even more remarkable is that the supposed scene took place a few hundred years in the future.

What year was the car and does anyone know if the car was sacrificed to get the scene? Spoiler alert.

    Charles,

It's either a 65 or 66. It has elements of both. My best guess is a 65 with some later components.

You sure did and I did and I did an archive search of Star Trek before I posted with negative results. My excuse for being late to the dance? With the price of NOS parts these days I had to wait for a cheap matinee to see it!

Still it was worth the price of admission--I always wondered what would happen if you tried to open your soft top at 90MPH and now I know.

Not to worry, the Vette that goes over the cliff is computer graphics creation constructed by the amazing visual effects wizards at George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic.
