It's fantastic to sit here overseas and still have all the knowledge from you
US guys available at my finger-tips.
    To sum things up:
There are no threads in the holes for grounding straps at the middle frame crossmember
It's a St. Louis body car
There are no signs of any green metal tabs for the rocker panels
The fiberglass tabs at both ends of rockerpanels are cut
There are no holes in the rear valence panels
So it appears that my car came with side-pipes.
As I bought a new complete under-the-car exhaust system I will go ahead and install that.
But I will not cut any holes in the existing rear valence panels. I will put them aside for
a possible future installation of side-pipes.
I will order a repro rear valence panels with holes
Thanks a million for all your input on this case.
    Hans,

    An FYI,

because side pipes are such a frequent "add-on" the NCRS judges are hyper-vigilant about looking for any signs of a previous under car exhaust installation. I just want you to be aware that even installing it now "may" cause you issues in the future as any doubt about side exhaust authenticity on a judged car results in a full deduction for the exhaust system plus other items.

    Best of luck,

      Hans,

Since it appears your car is a "real" factory side exhaust car, be advised that putting under the car exhaust can be done with a possible exception of the side rocker panels.

The tabs that the under car exhaust rocker panels are screwed to are not there! You can still slide the rocker panel into the long metal mounting strip that is attached to the side of the body. But, you will have to fabricate a way to hold the rocker panels in place.

        Hans !

Glad you found some good clues that may indicate the installation of factory side exhaust. Glad you didn't cut that panel !!

Might want to document the features that indicate the factory side exhaust with some good clear photos before you proceed with the under car installation.

Like Patrick mentioned, judges are always looking to disprove the side exhaust. Be armed with all of the backup you can have if you make the under car conversion.

Again, glad you were able to spare the old panel the terror of the sabre saw !!

          Hans,

Write your new exhaust off as an "educational expense". You've dodged a bullet. Celebrate and install some sidepipes! You'll be happier in the long run.

          Best regards,
