I've been reading Jerry's post and others and thought I'd share a couple of photos and fun from my trip.
I had a great drive up old 395 with some a few others from the So. Cal. chapter. No major issues other than my tach cable breaking at about 200 miles into the trip (550 miles one way) and then the brake light switch went out some where near Bishop. Luckily, the guys in the road tour where following me for safety and were all willing to help me get it fixed. I found a replacement at NAPA once in Tahoe and got it switched it out before hitting the judging field.
Great cars, great people, and great weather for my first regional. I had a blast and learned a ton. Earning a Top Flight was great too.
Like others have said, the trip home was long and hot. Beautiful from Tahoe to Bishop. But, from Bishop to Barstow the temp was pushing 107! It didn't cool down until I hit the I-5 near Oceanside and made it home.
The car ran great - even in the heat. Averaged about 190 (usually runs at 180) and a little higher up some of the grades. 1100 miles round trip, just over a qt of oil, and averaged 18-20 mpg. Not bad for a 43 year old motor.
The first picture is of some of the flight cars, James Garner's L88 is second, and the last one is the view.
