    C3 Spare Tire Carrier Bolts

The two lower front bolts on my Spare Tire carrier have nuts threaded onto them. Is this correct for a 1971?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Tom

There is on my 1970. I can't think of a reason why there would not be nuts on a 1971 or 1972. There are weld nuts attached to the frame cross member and the nuts you are asking about act as jamb nuts to hold the bolts secure.

Yes, they are used to "jam-nut" the threads of the bolt to the cross member. Depending on the width of your spare tire, you will need to adjust the carrier on the forward side so that the retaining bolt on the rearward side will release fully and also adjust to apply a slight pressure to compress the tire to prevent it from moving around when secured.

I can't remember for sure but I think there is a lock washer that goes on there also.

I think the nuts also keep the bolts with the carrier when removed.
