Re: How this for a Touring Car

Hopefully I'll join you in the Sportsman filed next year! I'll be installing my rebuilt motor this week, got it back Friday... I went to the Horizon Sunday AM, most everyone had departed. Hope you all had a great time. I saw you car up close at the Tahoe meet two years ago when it was on the California side...

Must have just missed you. Left the Horizon at about 10 AM Sunday, got back to Sonora about 1 PM. Hit 100 degree heat in Sonora as I returned.
The therno hit 210 at slow speeds. I think I have a fan clutch problem.

        Jerry,

Great pics! From what I have seen you could do many a seminar on field repair. You are the man! It was great to finally meet you at Tahoe. I also hit temps from 100 to 104 coming back down the 395 through Owens Valley. Needless to say I felt like a Thanksgiving turkey being in the oven,errr.....black coupe with no air! I will post some pics from the journey later tonight when I get home.

          John,

How did your speedometer work on the way home.

I learn something every day. I never realized that a 3 speed speedometer cable goes straight through the firewall on the driver's side. Quite different from a 4 speed. But I guess there aren't many 3 speed 67's.

            Jerry,

Speedo worked great! Car overall ran great the whole trip. Did push to 210 on the temp gage when climbing some small hills at 104 temp outside. overall I think that was exceptable. I do however believe my gage reads 10-20 degrees low. So may have been pushing 220-230 temp.

              Route 66 on DVD?

              Duke,

Where did you get Route 66 on DVD? I've heard a lot about it, but have never seen any of it.

                Jerry,
I meant to ask you how the vintage air worked. Does it keep you cool enough and do you notice any difference in coolant temperature when running at speed!

Re: How's this for a Touring Car

                  John,

It works fairly well in a convertible with the top up, but would work better in a coupe or with a hardtop on. Too much air leakage in a convertible.

Running at speed you would hardly notice the difference in coolant temperature. The coolant temperature would normally go up pulling a grade.

However when you slow down in 100 d heat, you see the temp go up fast with the AC on. I hit 210 Sunday just as I was getting home in 100 d heat. Like yours, my temp gage might be running a little cold as the engine seemed hotter.

I'll have to put my canning thermometer back on the upper radiator hose to check. Actually it wasn't too comfortable at the end of the trip at slow speed.

I think I have a fan clutch problem to address for the road tour to San Jose. Also I haven't recharged the AC since I put it on about 5 years ago.

                    Jerry,
Great photo's etc....Thanks so much for sharing. I know me personally, posts like this , just makes me want to take mine further and further from home, but I just don't yet have the courage.
Guess I need a trip to OZ.
                    Thanks for posting,
                    David

A neighbor with a '77 loaned it to me, but he's out of town on an extended business trip, and I don't know how to get a hold of him.

Just google route 66 dvd and you will find a bunch of sources.
