Last week I replaced the fuel filter on my 300hp Vette. The old one was dented but after removing it it was ok. It emitted a little whistle (the new one not) while blowing but the air came out easily. Despite that I wanted to replace it with my new one bought last year and new fuel line between filter and carb.
Acutally, I underestimated the job or overestimated my capabilities (SW developer, 3 year Corvette owner, last other mechanical experiences on a moped 24 years ago). It took me considreable time to get it all aligned. Since I had a cold and didn't want to start the engine only for a short moment I posponed that.
Today I started the engine ... and guess what. All the fittings leaked. Ok, another two hours to get it fixed. Many times disassembling and assembling. I came to the point where I suspected the new fuel filter to be leaking. Finally I opted for the old one. One final assemby and it appears to be fine now - after 30 miles no leaking at the fittings.
Especially the brass fittings are to be handeled with care when applying torque. Don't apply it in the middle of the fitting because there the wall is very thin - this realization cost me a set of new fittings. I damaged the old ones.
Regards
Oliver
