    annoying rattling sound

After completing the body off restoration on my 67, I have developed an annoying rattling sound under the car on the drivers side. The sound is tinny but I do not see anything under the car that could possible rattle.

The sound starts at 2500 rpm and remains at all rpms higher while driving. At idle or in netural I can bring the rpm up to over 3500 rpm without any rattle.
I noticed the side exhaust cover and molding rattle a bit when I bang on them but they shouldn't make noise at exactly 2500 rpm each and every time under load.
Do the side exhaust mufflers have baffles in them? I am wondering if a baffle is loose or rusted out since the mufflers are 18 years old and perhaps banging inside the muffler.

    Any ideas will be helpful.

    Lorne -

The sidepipes don't have any baffles in them per se, but if they're rusting out, pieces can come loose and rattle.

Lorne, the side pipes are not really mufflers, they are a segmented pipe. What John said is quite possible, but I'm thinking it might be the brackets holding the pipes or the sills that are causing the sound. Bill.

Lorne, maybe the shield on the bell housing contacting the flywheel, they make a tinny sound and can be rpm sensitive.

Thank you all for the input and ideas.
I will remove the side covers, sills, splash shields, and bell housing cover to see if the noise goes away. Hopefully one of these is the cause or it's back to square one.
