C4 Center Air Dam Hardware Orientation

Should the nuts be above or below the center air dam? The service manual shows below, but I've seen other sources showing above. What's correct? Thanks

Pat- On our '96 the center air deflector is held on with the nuts on the bottom. There is a reinforcement plate that goes on the bottom of the center air deflector, and the bolts go through the air deflector, and then through the reinforcement plate, and then a washer goes against the reinforcement plate, then the nuts are attached to the bolts. The brace in the center is attached the same way, the bolt goes through the brace, and then through the air deflector, and then through the reinforcement plate, then a washer, then the nut.

The two end deflectors are held on to the bottom of the fenders with the nuts on the top side. They are attached to the center air deflector with a black, flat, phillips head sheet metal screw.
This is what is on our '96, the other years might be different.

Thank you Jake. A few more questions please:

There are 5 slots (excluding the brace slot) for nuts and bolts in the center section. I assume all 5 of yours are filled with nuts and bolts?

The center reinforcement plate is sort of "U" shaped. How is it oriented, with the U up or down?

How does the brace bolt go through the reinforcement plate? On mine the plate is a single piece that does not extend toward the brace bolt.

Does yours have reinforcement plates for the two end deflectors?

Yes, all five have nuts and bolts.

The "U" is positioned with the open side towards the ground, and the flat side against the air deflector.

The brace goes through the air deflector, and is positioned in front of the reinforcement plate--see photo--

Does yours have reinforcement plates for the two end deflectors?

Yes, the reinforcement plates are above them on the inside of the bottom of the fender--see photo--
