    Bloomington Gold vs. Top Flight

    Hi all,

Trying to gather a bit of info on how the judging goes between BG and a TF. I have received numerous Top Flights and just want to know what guide they use to judge the cars? Will a high score Top Flight score high in BG?

    All help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Craig W.

You will see some of the same judges at both venues. BG has a 36 minute per car limit on judging and one judge per section. High scoring Regional Top Flight, 97+, should do ok for a Gold. Anything below that could be marginal, especially if all the Top Flights are chapter events

The last time I was in Bloomington judging was 2005, and found it to me much easier than NCRS events. As stated, time spent on each car was really short vs. NCRS. I have had friends that have gone in the past few years and report that since new owners are involved the judging has become more along the lines of NCRS. It's really a fun time with the auction and all, I think next year I will go again without a car I could use a small vacation.

In 2008 BG for C-1s, four judges, sometimes swapping Cert. Forms, for "Engine Compartment", "Chassis", "Body & Wheels", "Interior" and "Tech".....35 minutes.....followed later (much later) by two Stamp Judges who confirmed/judged casting number, casting date, pad date/suffix, pad VIN and VIN tag...took digital image of the pad.....7 minutes.

I know the Engine Compartment and one of the Stamp judges....these guys are/have been judges at NCRS Nationals and seemed highly qualified.....and helpful and friendly.

My 1971 454/ 4 speed coupe, scored 92.0 NCRS and 92.0 BG. Some of the judges were the same. Jim

I did BG and a local NCRS last year with a BB '68 Vert. Results were almost exactly the same.

As I recall, my BG score was 95.8 and my 1st Top Flight was about 96.2 at a chapter meet. I believe that 1 or 2 of the judges were the same.

One of the main differences is that a minor deduct at BG will cost you 5pts minimum whereas at NCRS it may only cost you 1-2pts. Just one example....

Thanks all. Is there a point scale used to determine Gold, Siler and Bronze like we use in Top Flight scoring system?

                Thanks,
                Craig

Yes, and you'll see it on the score sheets...

8425 total points available. Lose up to 463 and garner a Gold Certificate. Lose up to 884 for a Silver Certificate (OR score in the Gold range but be 'boxed' out on one or more items). Lose up to 1305 for a Bronze Certificate.

You can go to the BG web site and request a set of judging sheets for your year. I believe a woman named Laurie sent me a set for the '67.Got them thru email..........P.....

Thanks all. One quick question. I see there is a box on the scoring sheets for the window sticker. I have my original one which is behind glass in a frame. Do they actually want to see it on the side window or can I leave it in the frame? If I ordered a new one from AAA productions and glued it to the glass would that be acceptable? I really do not want to remove it from the frame.

                      Thanks,
                      Craig

2008 C-1 jugding was silent on Window Stickers but did have a section on Owner's Manual/Envelope/Content. I had all related pictures and papers, including glove box items (except the HT wrench) in a 3-ring binder in the truck...no problem.

Re: Bloomington Gold vs. Top Flight

The Bloomington Gold judges use the same five facets of originality that NCRS does -- or for those of you into history NCRS uses the same five facets as Bloomington Gold does.

It is amazing what one can find from Goggle.

Now ask yourself: "If your window sticker is in a picture frame. Is it installed like the factory did?"

If you order a reproduction window sticker what are the chances it will pass ALL five facets?

If you answer those questions, you will have your answers.
