    1967 427 emblems

Do the speednuts for the hood 427 numbers have "dum-dum" or not? I have been counted off both ways.

Yes, they do - the nuts are black, and so is the dum-dum.

Jeremy, on my 43,000 mile, very original '67, the nuts and caulking are exactly as John describes. I'm quite certain the 427 emplems have never been off the hood.

They definitely had the sealer as John and Ridge have mentioned----so did 1968-72. The strange thing I've always wondered about is why none of the 67-72 AIM's ever specified that any sealer be used at this location.

          Joe,
The sealer is not mentioned in the AIMs because it came already installed on the nuts, and was not installed as a separate operation. So all the UAW worker had to do was put the nuts (with the sealer already on them) on.

I thought about the pre-installed sealer, too. However, the nut used for 1967, GM #9419761, was just a standard faceted flange, spring steel type nut with no pre-applied sealer. The nut used for 68-72, GM #9419753, was a similar type nut but MAY have included a pre-applied sealer. I have no information on it.

Jeremy, I can't tell you how the sealer was applied, but can confirm for absolute certain that on my March 1967 L68 convertible, the sealer is still present, and I'm certain the emblems have never been off the hood.
The sealer is very old, and has probably shrunk, but is still slightly pliable. Appears to be black. The nuts are exactly as Joe described.
Here's a photograph, but it is difficult to get a good pic of the underside of a dirty, un-disturbed hood.
              Hope this helps somewhat. Ridge.
