I have a friend buying parts for his 56 Corvette and asked why his headlight parts don't match up as a unit .He had Corvette bulb dish's while trying to use Car bulb retainer rings.
Car retainer ring are different having two slotted screw holes and a spring attachment , while the correct Corvette rings have three closed screw holes using no spring. 53 to 57 use the same bulb retainer rings.
Also Car and Corvette dish's are design different ,car don't work in a Corvette. 55 car headlight assy is different then 55 Corvette.
This may be a silly thing to mention but my friend dint know that.

Roy:

One of the vendors sells this bulb retaining ring for 1957 Corvettes. It has no flanged slots or flanged holes, but it has two slots and a hole cut on the side of it.

I have seen some paint the "dish" black but I thought they were supposed to be left plated as original. True?

That's correct just like the pic's.
