Re: 1956 Block Pad number
Dan;
Just so happens that I am doing some research on 56 sequence numbers and date codes. I can offer the following info.
Keep in mind that engine sequence numbers don't necessarily follow build dates. In general, later build dates also have higher sequence numbers, but we see lots of examples where this is not true.
OK, having said that, here is some of the info I have:
Engine 0484443 F56FG has a vehicle estimated build date of May 23, 56.
Engine 0506966 F56FG has a vehicle estimated build date of June 7, 56
My estimate is that 0489144 would have a vehicle estimated build date of May 30, 56.
Given that the sequence numbers are not exact, I could believe this would work for a May 29, 56 car.
Equally important is the casting date of the block. My understanding is that the "typical" gap between casting date of block and vehicle build date is 3 to 5 weeks for 1956 Corvettes. This is also not a hard and fast rule.
Note: I have not posted VIN numbers as some people are sensitive about that.- Top

Re: 1956 Block Pad number
Dan, I am a little late in providing this information, but here is some more guidance for your '56 991 production numbers:
B276 0327209
C146 0509490 ?
C266 0432844
D206 0482724
D266 0489144
I can't tell you what the deal is with the C146. Possibly a mistake. These were provided to me by a guy that has a few hundred blocks when I was looking for a specific casting date.
