I am shipping my 63 from Anchorage AK to Gulfport MS. The car will be transported by ship to Tacoma Washington and will then have to be transported to Gulfport Mississippi. Of course I want it transported in an enclosed transporter.

I would like recommendations and cautions from those of you who have recent experiences shipping your cars. You help will be greatly appreciated.

Pat, since no one else has replied, I'll give you some suggestions from one Mississippian to another. Perhaps my comments will prompt someone to chime in with a least some criticism.

Exotic Car Transport out of Florida does a lot of East-West transport, and Gulfport would be on their way home to Florida. I have heard of some criticism about Exotic, but my experience has been positive. It's enclosed shipping, and the driver was very good about calling me along the route.

Intercity Auto Transport out of Houston has good recommendations from others, as does FedEx. Both are enclosed. As you know, do not use unenclosed shipping. You want an agreement with the shipper that your car will not leave his truck from pickup to delivery (to avoid transfers from one truck to another and to avoid your car sitting outside somewhere until the next truck comes along).

The absolute best way to ship is with someone who has an enclosed trailor that holds only one or two cars; I know one, but he doesn't go to California. Perhaps others do know someone.

Pat, there was extensive discussion on different carriers the last half of last year. You need to check out the comments. There are alot of good carriers out there. Check out their insurance, their liability versus yours. Most can meet your schedule requirements. If your car is undriveable tell them up front, and also if you have spare or loose parts going with the car. I prefer mine to be loaded on the top and first in as they usually go undistrubed the whole trip and not offloaded/onloaded for another car. Most will cover your car, also, usually in plastic sheet. Make certain you photograph the car in detail, or someone does, in case some damage occurs you have record of condition before loading. The carrier will fill out a sheet before the caris loaded. Get the number of customer service or dispatch, although hopefully you won't need it outside of status of location. It usually goes very smooth. I am fortunate and have never had a problem.

I have used FedEx/Passport Transport a number of times cross country and Reliable is also very good.
