    67 427 underside hood paint

On the underside of a 67 427 hood at the windshield, where dose the body color stop and the black begin? I know where the small block is. Thanks

Donald, did you ever get any answer on this question. I don't have anyone here to help me lift my hood off the body, but can get it off and take some photos by Monday, if you still need them.
Let me know if I can be of help, or send me an email if you want close-up photos emailed directly to you. My March 1967 built convertible still has the original acrylic lacquer, and black-out still on it. Ridge.

        Donald,

Here are two pics from an original good that had a not-so-professional repaint 37 years ago. Note the blackout margin line in the center of the hood - a not so perfect factory job! The hood should be yellow. I have to believe this example is an exception and that the margin line for the hood blackout followed the 90 degree area in the hood from side to side where the weatherstrip is glued.

So you are saying the bottom of the scoop at the winshiels is body color? was it like an overspray or nicely painted?

Donald, here's a couple pics of the underside of the hood off my car.
As mentioned previously, it's off a March 1967 built big-block convertible, with 43,000 actual miles. Original acrylic lacquer on a no-hit body. Never previously restored, as she rested in a barn from the late 1970s, until I pulled her out in early 2006.
            Hope this helps, Ridge.

              Donald,

If you look real close at Ridge's hood, you can see the blackout margin paint line go straight across the raised part of the hood.

The judging manual does not read very clearly on this topic. What is does say it the entire outer lip is painted body color and that in front of the hinges, the blackout may cover a portion of the outer lip.

It also says(not so clearly) that the blackout runs in a straight line consistent with the upper portion of the hood and does not follow the curve in the structure. That to me means the blackout line should go straight across under the center raised part of the hood.

When the stinger was painted, some overspray got onto the under side of the hood. But maybe someone else can say how much overspray.

                Doug -

That description in the JG pertains to the blackout pattern outboard of the hinges at the front corners of all hoods, not to the rear of the BB hood. The JG doesn't describe the blackout at the rear of the BB hood.
