    Re: Trim Tag

    You're wise to be cautious here... What you really need is to either post a nice close-up picture of the trim tag or have a VERY senior NCRS judge look at it. Here's the story...

    Every year the sales brochures listed 'recommended' color combinations to order from. BUT, in the fine print of the sales brochure (still true today), there's a disclaimer to the effect all regular production color/fabric combinations ARE available on customer request.

    Ordering a car built outside the then current recommended color combination does NOT require special authorization (COPO order), it simply means the order will be checked, double checked and verified before the build sheet is sent for production.

    Cars like this are the exception to the rule, but they DID and DO happen! When these cars show up for Flight Judging, you can bet their trim tags will be CLOSELY scrutinized to verify they're factory original and not reproduction trim tags installed by prior owners wanting to make a 'unique' Corvette...

          Yep, I saw a 1974 coupe many years ago. Blue with an oxblood interior. I checked that trim tag more than once to double check. It really did not look that bad.

            And in more recent times, let's not forget the 95 yellow/red ZR-1 made for the Ronald McDonald House, and a bunch of C5 Z06s with yellow outside and mod red inside.

                I order a 73 Pontiac Grand Prix. It was a special order, Gold exterior and the choices of interiors were white or Tan. They offered a gold interior for White exteriors. I ordered the gold exterior with the gold interior. Never saw another one like it. Also a high altitude package for the 455. They(GM) had a special name for the cars ordered like that. I cannot remember what it was called. Anyone remember? Dale

                    Those were "trim overrides" - the dealer order had to be approved by the Zone Office before forwarding to Central Office; if the parts were in the plant, it was no big deal.

                      In '74 I ordered a new cutlass, red interior with black landau roof on a white car, they called me at work to verify I wanted the non std roof, I told then I hated red vinyl roofs and I had the car with black roof 8 days later.

                        Hello;

                        Don't you mean a relative ordered the Cutlass.
                        If it were you, you would have to have be over 50 years old now. Can't be.

                            If you want to talk hideous, I briefly worked at a Pontiac dealership as service manager. The dealer, whom I still think was drunk when he filled out the order, ordered a (model eludes me, same as a Monza). Was dark green metallic, red interior, and saddle vinyl roof. Uggggh

                              John, was 1972 the first year that code ZP2, Color & Trim Override appeared on Chev options, prices and production quantities (looking at my copy of the NCRS Pocket Spec Guide) ?

                              Here's the GM Canada shipping record on my new '72 convertible # 08196, where the code shows on the 2nd line as ZP2AA5 . NCRS book says 164 convertibles had this 'option'. This one was Steel Cities Gray (paint code 988, 479 convertibles had it) with interior code 412, Dark Bright blue vinyl (713 convertibles had this interior).
