    Wheel dolly

What types of dollies do most of you use? I haven't bought a set yet, but want to know which type you like best.

John, it's too bad you don't live closer to Michigan, I just decided to sell my set. I think the shipping costs would be a deal breaker.
I don't recall the brand, but they are the standard black ones that have served me well and moved my 65 around my garage with ease. I will say that they have steel wheels, but never put a mark on my epoxied floor.

John, I have a set with the two rollers that go on each side of the tire and a jack that pulls the rollers together to lift the tire off the ground. If you periodically take the car in and out of the garage they are the only way to go. I bought them at Northern Tool awhile back. At that time they went for around $190/pair so you're at about $400 (+shipping if you're not close to their store) for a set of 4.

I also have a set that are the curved with 4 wheel type that you have to jack the car up and set it on them. If the car is being stored they work fine. On the '58 it's a bit of a hassle due to the steeriing pivot arm mount to jack up the nose.

John, I have Tire Skates by Accessible Systems (accessiblesystems.com). I have had my 59 on them for the last year and they are very easy to move around. Mine are the 12X16 model.

            John,

I read in another thread that steel wheels aren't so great because if you hit a pebble they stop. I wound up getting these from Summit Racing:

I haven't had a chance to try them out yet, but will soon. I'll report back after I do.

I have a couple of sets like that (except they're steel) that I bought from www.carskates.com about ten years ago - the large polymer wheels make ALL the difference; I can move a car around with one hand.

I have some cheap ones from Harbour Freight and they work fine, although I don't use them that often.

I've used Go-Jacks every weekend for over 15 years and they work great. They have a foot jack to lift the wheels on a Corvette. No jacking up the car to put it on rollers. Two work great for moving a car around.

I thought I'd report back on the Summit dollies. They worked OK, but I couldn't budge the car with one hand. I had to use everything I got to get it moving. Once moving it rolled pretty well. Changes in direction also required a fair amount of muscle. I should mention that the garage floor has a rough texture. I suspect they will work much better once I put epoxy paint on the floor.
