    56 GU Engine Stamp

I have been noticing as I have done some limited research that in Noland Adams volume 1 book and in other documentation that there are no serial number stamps listed for GU Duntov cam solid lifter 56 Corvette motors. Is this merely a coincidence, or are the stamping sequences different on these rare motors? I did hear a rumor that they may have been done separately and the serial number sequence was not added, but I have yet to confirm that they were done differently than the other production engines.

Does anyone have any information or pictures of a GU stamp they could share with me?

    Thanks much,
    Mark

The GU motors were manufactured and motor stamping sequence and suffix letters were on the pad. Mike Hunts research documented this.

      John,

Do you know where I can see any of his information/research?

The late Mr. Hunt spent many many hours doing research on the 56/7 Corvette's that he loved so much. He authored and sold a series of booklets in blue binders with his historical RP 56/57 contained within. A few of "us" were lucky to have bought them and still have them in our possession.

Perhaps NCRS should look into obtaining a set (if they don't already) for their archives.

If they are selling past judging information for $300.00 per car perhaps these RP 56/57 reports could be sold through the NCRS store and some of the $$$ given to his famiy or some worthy cause such as an animal shelter in Madison, Wisconsin as he loved his dogs so much, especially Ganse.

I have a set of Mike Hunt's books and would donate them to the NCRS store if they would properly market them and sell them to other members and donate some of the $$$ to a worthy cause such as I mentioned above.

What about just posting the information (minus any owner personal data) online. I too have a set of Mike's data that I ordered from him about 1993.

Mike and I corresponded many times after that, as I asked more and more questions about 56 Corvettes.

Seems to me that posting this data electronically would be a nice tribute to Mike. He was one of the good guys.

As each of Mike's booklets/folders became available, I also bought them and still have them. A lot of good information is still contained in them.
I have always wondered (but never asked) why NCRS didn't evaluate and publish this information (or at least some of it).
I found it most interesting that "way back then" Mike had information regarding Rochester FI units installed on 5 Cadillacs, which has never surfaced through any other source until Ken Kayser published his latest book on FI.
Mike uncovered a lot of good stuff. I sure miss him!

Mike Hunt's Report 56/7 updates were printed several times in the Restorer along with many other articles Mike authored. They're available on the C1 CD-ROM from the NCRS store. Gary....
