Are JK wheels correct for my 1964 A/C Coupe?

I just had my Kelsey Hayes stock 15 x 5 1/2" wheels media blasted and primered for protection. The code on them is "JK" and the date code is "8 64". Since my car was built near the beginning of October 1963, these wheels must have been added after production. I have not checked the spare rim, but it has what appears to be an original 7.00 something tire on it. Are these wheels correct for my car? I plan to use a set of Corvette America bolt-on aluminum wheels (imitation knock-offs) but may mount up a set of bias ply tires on these rims if they are correct. Any help. please? - Pete Koehler in Slippery Rock, PA

I believe that those are 65-66 Corvette wheels, with clearance for disc brakes. Not the same as 63-64 steel wheels, but still worth a few bucks. You might ask around and see is someone has some 63-64 wheels to trade.

I just bought a set of JK wheels dated 8 64. They were for 65 66 disc brakes, I just sold a set of JK wheels dated 3 64, they were for 63 64 drum brake car. They are different. If you look in the archives you'll see post with pictures. PS: If there real JK wheels they are worth 250 - 350 a piece.

Pete -- in addition to the different X-section profile mentioned, the stamping on '63-4 factory wheels is 15 x 5_1/2 K (not JK).

With your 8_64 dated "JK"s, there have been some reported with riveted center to rim construction (as opposed to welded, per factory production). If this is the case, they may have less resale potential than the welded type.

Yep, I have one that is riveted. Got it on Ebay right now. Riveted is not correct for production cars.

Thanks for all the help. Now I know more about Corvette wheels than I ever imagined! My wheels are 65-6 for disc brake 'Vettes and they are welded. No nubs. I guess if I could source a nice set of "driver quality" 1964 wheel covers these wheels would work okay. Wonder what the spare rim is????? Thanks again. Your help is very much appreciated. - Pete
