6 Volt charger adapter

I'm planning a road trip with the 54 and was wondering if anyone knows of an adapter (6 volt to 12 v) for the cig lighter that I can plug my 12 volt cell phone in to.

Joe, I don't see how that can be done. If you only have 6v. Get a wall wart and charge it at night in the motel. Bill.

Possible? Piece of cake with either a switching regulator or charge pump based design...

When I was preparing my '54 for the long drive from GA to CA 10 years ago, I installed one of these for cell phone power:

I mounted this up high under the dash and added a lighter socket to an existing bolt hole at the bottom of the dash.

It worked out so well, I left it installed after getting to California and I still plug in my cell phone anytime it needs charging.

Nothing fries a cell phone battery faster than charging it with a cigar lighter. Now I read this and heard a lot of chatter. Then a sales rep at Verizon told me the same thing when I got my new cell. He said if you must use your car to charge the cell don't charge it for more than 5-10 minutes.

Thanks to all. I'll probably go the inverter route that Jim recommended. It seems to be a little pricey, but it's cheaper than converting the car to that dreaded 12 volts. Besides, I can also plug in a MP3 palyer to it.
