    Horn relay

I need a correct horn relay on my '67 vette for NCRS judging purposes. I contacted Corvette Central for a new relay. The relay that they say is correct in their catalog has a black plastic boot; however, my 1967 NCRS TECHNICAL INFORMATION MANUAL and JUDGING GUIDE FOURTH EDITION says the translucent, semi-clear boot is correct and that the black boot is incorrect. Has the manual been updated accepting the black boot as correct or is Corvette Central wrong?

The "837's" are available on Ebay ...they were used on other GM's of that era . You'll have to be careful of the usual beadblasted cases & "yellowed" plastic . Keep looking for a good one...

      Don -- here's a junkyard "837". AFAIK, they're all translucent.

Corvette Central is wrong - they're selling a later Service "functional replacement", not the 837 relay configured as used in 1967 production. The CC relay will function just fine, but will get appropriate deductions in judging based on how it deviates from the original 837 in terms of finish, date, installation, configuration, and completeness.

Yep, and one of the reasons for the change ('66-67 + the one year only '68 horn relay) is the translucent/clear plastic turned yellow, got brittle and broke from exposure to UV and heat. That's why good used originals tend to be though to find and trade up in $$$...

No problem and count your LUCK because you have TWO years of fellow donor cars to provide used originals while the guys with '68 cars are locked into their one year only profile...

                            Don:

Paragon Reproductions also has rebuilt originals listed in their C2 catalog. No price given, only "call". Probably won't be cheap.

Otherwise check Hemmings, E-bay, swap meets or a visit(s) to local junkyards.

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder... The $100 price isn't out of line with the general market for either NOS or refurbished, pristine, original horn relays from the '66-67 or '68-69E era. The integrity of that translucent plastic insulator is what generates relative market volume!
