63 Steering Wheel Rim Repair

I acquired a '63 dark blue steering wheel long ago and the blue grained rim has separated at the bottom leaving a 1/4 inch gap. It looks like it pulled apart, but very cleanly and straight. Has anyone repaired one of these without sending it out for a professional job?

Steven, I had mine repaired by Gary's Steering wheel service, I delivered the wheel to him at Carlisle and picked it up after restoration at Carlisle.

After seeing the finished product I am very happy with his work, no problems since. I can't remember exactly but I believe he removed the complete outer ring surface and replaced it but it's been a few years.
