    c3 Carpet Plugs

Discovered a Carpet Plug has broke away from the shaft of the plug. I have original plugs but having difficulty getting the new one in. I'm convinced there is some old trusted trick to getting them back in. I've tried a blunt driver down the hole on top of the plug and used liquid soap to help it slip through. HELP PLEASE

A washer welded on your blunt driver at just the right spot will help. A helper on the other side can help pull the plug in. A perfect round hole burned through the carpet with a pencil solidering iron will take away the carpet friction which don't help the instulation of the plug.

Much information is posted in the archives. Push with a blunt screwdriver while pulling with a needle nose plier on the other side using lots of dish soap for lubricant or silicone.
      It's a good life!

        Norm,

Just happened to do this last night. Here's info that I gleaned from the archives that worked for me. Boil the plug for 2 minutes, then lube the tip with lithium grease, insert a phillips head screwdriver that's not to pointy and push right thru. As others have stated there are many ways to get them in.

I have made a tool to install those carpet plugs and it works well. Take an old screwdriver with round metal, cut or grind the tip off just about flat, then take one of the carpet plugs and push the screwdriver into the carpet plug for a measurement. You need it to elongate or stretch the plug. Measure that distance, glue a fender washer to the bottom of the handle of the screwdriver. Take the measurement transfer it and cut the screwdriver round the edges and it will be a push tool to get those carpet plugs in. You can put a little vaseline if needed. Who makes replacement carpet plugs with the GM part number on them?

Paragon has the plug with the GM # on them. I used an old screwdriver and ground the end off so it wouldn't punch through. Then I slid a few washers on the screwdriver with the last one being a fender washer (which is a oversize washer). Worked pretty good. Hope this helps. Reed

                Les,

Not sure who you spoke to at Paragon but I ordered 2034K from them and it has part number 3368790 and ACL stamped on the top. The pic on their web site shows these number/letters too.
