    Correct alternator belt for '70 LT1

    I just sent my 1100884 alternator off to John Pirkle for service and restoration. So I was thinking, I probably should get a new alternator belt while I'm at it since the current belt is aftermarket and doesn't look correct. so I searched the archives for information on the correct belt to purchase but didn't have much success.

    I want to get a belt that looks good, will judge well, and will function correctly. I noticed in previous threads that all of the posters thought that the Quanta belt looked great, but some said that it didn't perform well and recommended it for judging only. Does anybody have any suggestions as to where I can find a correct belt that will work properly, or did I misunderstand the previous comments about the Quanta belts?

      I have belts from Quanta (cloth wrap) on one of my cars for 4-years now and put a few hundred miles on the car each summer and have had no problems.

              Quanta's Belts Are Fine. Had Some On An L88 Clone That I Drag Raced And Shifted At 6500 And Had No Problems At All.

                  Blew two out of three Quanta cloth wrapped belts on my '71 SB A/C car within 5K miles of driving. Replaced all with then current GM die cut service replacement belts (tough to find these days) and have logged +50K miles since without incident...

                  Unless Quanta has changed the mfgr process for their reproduction belts, I consider them 'show only' quality parts.

                      Mixed results here.

                      I've blown the Quanta alternator belt off my 71 several times and now it sits on a shelf.
                      I've run them on my 72 for a few thousand miles without any problems at all.

                          Thanks everyone. I've decided to purchase a Quanta belt and try it out. I'll also keep the old (not original) belt just in case.
