    OK:

Guess what this is about? You won't want to miss it.

The title of the jpg gives it away.

          Charlie:

Just you wait. This is the real deal...one of a kind look at the Goose.
Could it be that we are the only members that remember this stuff?

Looks like it's on it's way to Long Beach for final assembly before "The Aviator" had his adventure. I don't see Leonardo Dicaprio anywhere in the pic though.

Do you mean the fruit loop Howard Hughes. That plane was Huge. What possesses someone to make such a thing. ( an infinite amount of money will do that). He was a very eccentric person with oooodles of money. I love that polished alloy plane he crashed sexy as !!!!!!

You guys are toooooo good for me.
But the story when it comes out it REAL.
                1962 Port of Long Beach
Corvette inspired....with some youth reflected upon.
That's why these stories wouldn't work in any publication.
They are more for how things were when we were young...just as it was...not abridged or synthesized. And soon to be lost in time.

Been to see it at Evergreen a few time up in Oregon. It's amazing. While you're checking out all the other great planes, you forget that many are parked under its wings!

Stew, he built it for a government contract -- and it had to fly to meet that contract. And fly it he did.

In the early 1960s while in the Air Force I worked on an electronic system designed by Hughes Electronics. Uncle Howie was a legend then, and he was still alive at that time.

He was a true entrepreneur in it's true meaning. He was close to loosing control of his fortune many times. His belief (balls) and gift pulled him through so many times. It was a sad way he ended up, he had a brilliant mind.
Did you know that the hughes aircraft medical institute in 1985 was sold to guess Who ? GM for 5.2 Billion dollars. How does a great company like GM afford billions of dollars in the 80's and 90's and 2 decades later is bankrupt ?

Saw the Goose in Long Beach--amazing. By the way HH did not like it being called Spruce Goose. Another interesting aside, Hughes built the first communications satellites and as part of Raytheon are still involved in the commsat business.

Hughes also invented the Sidewinder air-to-air missile.
