A May 1956 built car could it have a GU code wich is 2x4 3 speed high lift cam.

The SR cars were among the first with GU code. At least two were early June built. By memory, I believe the earliest GU that Mike Hunt found was also early June.

In the Mike Hunt research I relocated this morning he noted #2720 as a GU car. The cover car for the current Restorer is #2834 and is a GU built car. I have a block (not original to the car) in my 56 Sebring car which was built as part of the Daytona-Sebring program in January 56. I have a copy of the engineering build order for 25 complete motors to 240HP specifications. 10 went to Smokey Yunick,11 went to Mauri Rose, the other 4 to known racers. Mine as a complete motor went to Mauri who gave it to name sprint car racers in PA and it then went into the Bob Gold collection. Dick Robinson bought the block (still with hone marks), ex manifold still with factory paint and early distributor. They were built with engine code GT, which later in the year was used for the 240HP pass car motors. I dont know why it was June before the GU motors showed up in production cars.
