1960 hard top side receiver molding

hello, the hardtop side receiver molding has 2 holes on the side but my car does not have anything to hold the screws I looked at assembly manual and it shows under moulding were the bolt goes thru that it got built up with resin filler is that done when car is restored or is there another way to do this thanks, mike

If I remember right the side screws go into fiberglass. Not a good plan for screws after they are put in and out a few times. The molding is also retained by the bottom bolt. I am not sure what the resin build up you refer to is about. Don H.

no I can't get picture right now but to (clarify) IT would be a bushing made of resin under body were side reveiver moulding bolt goes thru it's purpose would be to strengthen body at that point I thought maybe someone was making these bushings thanks again, mike

here are a few pics of 3 different cars, the resin build up seems to be an as required operation, and varies in amount, #1 is a 58, #2 & #3 is a 60, #4 is a 59, hope it helps,

These are undamaged, unmodified on a '59

Hey you guy's, Thanks for the pics my car looks just like the pic with (no build-up) but I know it should look like the pic with the build-up and the 2 screw holes, I just can't figure out why someone would cut that out or change it perhaps it was as I suspected and ended up being fiberglass bushing that did not adhere to body and fell out when car was taken apart ??? any thoughts on that theory, thanks again ,Mike

Definitely nothing deliberately cut out on the '59. Maybe there was more material there at one time that has broken away. The two screws bite into the fiberglass that is in the picture, but the screws aren't very secure. I may build a small bracket that is held in place by the nut and securely retains the two screws...

Bill, I have been trying real hard to keep car 100% original but I do think your idea about bracket sounds good A simple little L shaped with 1 big hole and 2 little holes would work fine,Mike

tony, I am the second owner of this car and someone took it apart the 1st and only time about 15 years ago so I believe what was left of the filler didn't get bagged any thoughts on the( L shaped bracket )thanks, mike

I got out a strong flashlight and an inspection mirror. There is no clear evidence that there was filler that fell out on my '59. Dunno.

Mike, Like doug's pictures show, I have only seen areas like that, no brackets made of metal or other retaining "L" shaped item.
