I'm missing the original AM - FM Radio Operating Instuctions sheet (part #7285127) that is part of the glovebox package required for judging. I've tried Jim Clemens and he does not have one. Can anyone give me a reccomendation as to who may be a source for that particular piece of literature?

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
I just checked mine and I concur with Michael. My original, tattered though it may be, is a 7286857.
Would it be wise to perhaps have this laminated, or should I just leave it in the plastic envelope that I have for it in my book?

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
Stuart,
Just my humble opinion, but I would not laminate any original document that came with your car. I think that by laminating it, you might ruin its originality forever. If it didn't come like that from the factory, then anything you do to it will probably have negative originality implications for judging, etc. Just keep it in a dry plastic or paper envelope that will not damage paper. A scrap booking store will probably have what you're looking for.

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
Jim;
Thanks for the advice. I do now keep it in a clear plastic envelope which in turn is in a clear page holder in my book, along with all the other original documentation. I just pulled it out this morning to check the part number to verify it for this thread, and noticed how flimsy it has become - almost like tissue paper, and I was alarmed. I had to handle with extra care.
Thanks again.
Just had my 63 out for it's first ride since late January. I just have not been able to get any seat time due to some health concerns. I did my usual fluids check and found my battery water low (as expected) and, after a quick recharge it started right up and ran like a top. All the tweeking I did over this past year has paid off. I now think I have a handle on the lousy gas and heat soak problems. Real encouraging. Sorry I'm off subject, but I had to tell someone besides my dog, Ha!

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
Look for acid free paper, envelops and plastic to store your original documentation in, else it will fall apart over time. It may cost a little more but it's worth the cost. Try a local picture framer for the materials you need.

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
The 63-64 Judging Guide says the 63 AM/FM card was 7285127 and the 64 card was 7286857. Long Island shows the 7286857 as Late 63 and 64. Does anyone know when the changeover occurred in 63?- Top

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
I think the JG is in error. Both AM and AM-FM sheets are mentioned but the AM-FM sheet is refered to as 7285127. The 127 is actually the sheet for AM.
The sheet for the 63 and 64 AM-FM is 7286857.
On the attached AIM sheet below, the change from 7285127 to 7286857 on 12 April 63 (on paper, anyway) is clearly shown in the revision box at the bottom of the page. I don't know exactly when the change actually occured in production but the 12 April date at least gives us a clue.Last edited by Michael H.; September 17, 2009, 10:26 PM.- Top

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
There were two AM/FM radio instructions sheets for the U69 radio.
1st was 7285127. Then according to the AIMS on 4-12-63 the sheet was 7286857. Exactly when it went into production though I have no idea.
So to recap: There were 3 radio instruction sheets for 63.
U65 AM radio used 7282755. (MY 63 original AM sheet is 7282755)
See Sect U65 Sheet 1.00 marked "canceled". Shows AM instruction sheet as 7282755 which corresponds to the number on my original AM sheet.
U69 AM/FM used 7285127 & the later 63 used the '857 sheet.
I just bought a new aims as my old ones are a total mess. But I was disappointed to see my new aims does not have The misc shipping list of items that went in the instrument panel box. (Sect 14. A8.00)
So now some day I have to combine 3 different aims reprints to make one. Go figure. JD.Last edited by John D.; May 3, 2009, 01:14 PM.- Top

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
Kenneth, Look in the AIMS Sect 14 A8.00 for the answer.

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
Using Drafting Graphics AIMS-page C349. See Sect U65 Sheet 1.00 for AM radio info. See note 32.
7282755 Instruction sheet.
So then I went out to the LWC and looked at my original AM radio sheet and sure enough it is the '755 sheet.
Chalk one up for old JD.- Top

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
I have to wonder if it's possible that the 7285127 actually was the first issue AM-FM sheet? If the AM-FM radio became available in March, it would make sense that an AM-FM sheet was shipped in the car with all AM-FM's.
Does anyone have an original radio sheet for any 63? We would like to know about 7282255, 7285127 and 7286857, and what VIN it came from.
In any case, the JG still needs correction on this.Last edited by Michael H.; May 3, 2009, 03:30 PM.- Top

Re: Radio Operating Instructions
When I bought my 63 it had been sitting since 1970. The car is March 2nd or so. Has an untouched-unrestored AM radio which plays perfect. Original radio operating instruction sheet. I have it in a plastic holder as it's very fragile. I get dinged for conditon on the radio but I am not touching it as you'll have that.
Here's another tidbit on the sheet number. 7282755 REV. A
I didn't see the "Revision A" thing before.- Top
