Don and Steve, nice car Don, that is the 'early' short square female hood release cable set up that runs through the engine compartment, not the interior and out the heater box like the later cars did. Susan must have the later set up. This is what you can model yours on Steve. One comment, the RH cable on my 58 came out a hole behind the throttle arm above the tunnel, you should both check if a hole exists there instead of both exiting the same hole.

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

Dan, Now that Don was so kind and provided us with the photos, it is so much easier to discuss and reference the exit location. I will take your advise and look for the hole above the throttle linkage and if one exists, I will attempt to route the cable that way. If I can't find one, I don't think I will drill one, I'll just use the set up provided by Don. Again, thank you for the interest and advise. Steve

Steve, look at Don's insulation to the right of the throttle pedal, there is a hole in the insulation about where I think the cable should enter the engine compartment.

Dan, I have played around where you thought i hole might be and could not locate one but I really don't like the look of the single entry dual cable routing into the engine compartment. teh cable does not flow well over or under the steering column in the engine compartment. If I were to consider configuring my RH cable as you metioned, to the left of the thottle pedal, does the cable run over top the steering column or under the column ot get to the hole? I now understand what Susan was saying in that she run her cable under the insulation to hide the initial curve and routing till it gets to the engine compartment. If the cable is routed under the column (inside the cabin) it seem to be a smoother fit but almost appears as though the cable would be a bit low and look odd. I don't have the peddles or fuse box in place yet so its hard to really confirm if the cable would be in the way or look funny. Steve

Re: Request Looking for Routing Details for a 58 Hood Release Cable

Hi again, if you route the passenger side cable under the steering column it will lay just under the firewall insulation. This makes the cable a straight run until it curves up to the latch. The hole will be just past the accelerator pedal and above it. Look at the firewall insulation as there is a hole just under the "V' cut out of the middle piece. This is the hole you are looking for. It will exit out of the cabin into the engine compartment right behind the upper shielding bracket on the driver side ( across from this part) It clips into engine clips to hold it across the back of the engine and keeping it tight to the firewall. It curves up to the latch. If you look in the assemble manual there is a diagram which shows this routing. It is hard to read and you have to look carefully at it. It shows the exit point through the firewall as a dotted line close to the point I am describing. The diagram number is sec 11-13 sheet 2.00. The fire wall entrance in at the arrow B on the diagram (approx) at the start of the curve cut out . The only difference is for our style of latch you come up at the latch from under neath, rather than across to top of the firewall. This is a very nice run and will not twist the cable. I hope this helps. Regards Susan. PS I have seen several local cars done this way so I believe it is correct.

Steve, glad to help. Do you have the lug wrench in the trunk? Do you have 2 holes to hold the clip or one? I am trying to figure out why I only have 1. Regards, Susan

Hi Susan, Again, thank you for all your assistance. Yes I am an Ontario Chapter member living in Ottawa. My buddy Rob Fearon travels to the Nibblet show every year but I am most times to busy with yard work and such. This car is not anywhere near NCRS like, intensionally, but I may travel with Rob to the show if only to meet you and take a few photos of your car. I always enjoy meeting up with the old freinds. Take care. Steve
