    Happy 50th Anniversary

    May 1, 1959, my family adopted J59S102528.

Maybe it'll be done for our 60th on May 1, 2019...

Bill - I believe the NCRS has many enthusiast that are like us striving to achieve a set goal and complete their prize possession on its 50th anniversary. My 61 is approaching it's 16th year of restoration and looks similar to the level of completion as your 59. Looks like my 61 nickname, "Someday" will also miss it's 50th anniversary. Hey, It will be worth it in the end, and what a story she will have.

    Good luck,
    Bill

      Hi,
I have had my 1958 since I was a teenager. The car had a poorly done body off restoration. I am just about complete with the second restoration almost 30 years later and even though I missed my 50th birthday my car is having it's first NCRS judging and I hope to top flight, so don't give up!!!!!
      Best Regards, Susan

        Re: Happy 50th Anniversary

        Bill and Susan:

Thanks for the encouragement. I've been putting off working on the '59 until I decided exactly what my priorites would be. For example:

It has all-original body panels, but several "dings". Do I replace those with undamaged panels, or fix them and retain the history (even if the memories are not all pleasant)?

I wanted to try NCRS judging before making a decision, and I ran my very original '92 through the flight judging process in 2008.

I've decided to maximize the memories and let the '59 judging fall where it will.

Lucky for me, with the '59, "all-original" is "been there, done that".

        Bill

          Hi,

All I can say about NCRS and being original is that is why I had to do a second restoration. When ever I work on my car and think well I can go to Home Depot and buy a bolt and not wait for the correct one from a supplier I say to myself "common sense should prevail' do you want to restore it again for the third time!!!" This is why my restoration has taken so long to do. It is so much work to correct your errors, wait and take your time and do it right the first time. I hope I do well in May at NCRS, if I dont it is going to be sad day.
          Good luck, Susan

Doing it right the first time is a lesson I've learned over and over!

If you haven't done this yet, print the judging sheets and self-judge the car. Make sure you have an NCRS decal, fire extinguisher, and a cut-off switch (easy points). Make sure you get all the operations points.

Good luck with your judging. Hope you're not sad...

              Hi
Bill I have the fire extinguisher but have not mounted in the passenger side yet. Do you know where it goes and is the correct mounting hardware?
              Thanks Susan

                Susan:

I was told at the 2008 Michigan Regional that it didn't have to be mounted.

                  Susan -

It shouldn't be "mounted" anywhere; mounting it could result in a deduction for holes drilled in the body. It only needs to be present with your "stuff" so a judge can see it.
