    71 Wiper help needed

I have the wiper arm and blade holder off the car. I need to seperate the wiper arm from the blade holder and can't see how to do it. Most likely there is a simple solution but I don't see it. Any help is appreciated.

I usually use a small flat head screw driver and depress the small spring on the arm to release the retaining clip and then pull off the blade holder at the same time.

Please don't be offended Dave, but I think thee is an illustration in the FSM.

Funny story along these lines: On the Road Tour to Marlboro two year ago, I found the wipers on the 2001 Camaro were inadequate for the task at hand. I found an AutoZone and the pimply faced kid changed one wiper in a flash. I struggled with the other for about ten minutes before going inside to get him to show me how to do it. I still doubt I could do it in the driveway today, if I had to. And no I did not have my FSM with me on that trip.

Yep, there's a release hole in the top of the blade holder adjacent to the mounting latch pin hole. But, a used original can be a STUBBORN beastie and not want to let go despite the release being depressed.

In that case, you rotate the blade on the wiper arm so it's in a position to clear the squirter tube(s). Now, insert a flat blade screw driver between the blade and the arm and twist the screw driver. The blade WILL hop up/over the detent in the arm's attaching pin and come off...

Thanks guys...........I just didn't want to do something stupid before asking. I did check the service manual and didn't see anything on the wiper arms/blades. Lots on the wiper motor and linkage etc. Got everything back together and it looks/works great.

You can also pop them off by putting pressure on the end of the pin. If the arm and blade are off the car open your vice until the end of the arm end is loose in the slot and the blade holder is on the top of the vice. A light tap on the pin will release the real stubborn ones. With plastic protectors on the vice no paint will be scratched. On the car a short piece of wood and two hands on the blade holder with the wood on the end of the pin will push the pin out.

              Lyle,
Thanks. I got the car home from Charlotte and removed the lazy drivers side arm. Believe it or not Bubba had been in there and had messed with the spring and holder explaining why it was lazy. By a stroke of luck I had a good spare. All is well after the fix. Thanks for your help.
