    '69 seat belt pictures

I have searched the archives but haven't been able to find any pictures of what correct late '69 seat belts should look like so I am asking here if anyone can post some pictures of their belts or point me in the correct direction.

I originally thought that the belts in my car were incorrect but I took one of the buckles out and removed it from the rubber cover and found that it is dated 42B69 so I am going to assume that it is original to my car but latch side doesn't look like any of the pictures I have seen.

    Thanks,

    Jay

      Pat,

Thanks for the pictures. Mine look different but I suspect that is because your car is an early car and mine is a late car.

Here is a picture of the belts in my car. Can someone confirm if these are the correct ones for a late '69?

      Regards,

      Jay

        Jay,

I looked at the TIM&JG 3rd edition and I don't see any mention of a change in the male side. I'm certainly not sure if there was a change. I'd give Charlie Santorelli a call 908-719-2354 to confirm. He restored my belts.

          Pat,

Thanks for the tip. I'll call Charlie tomorrow.

Is he in NJ or PA? I have an address for him in Bedminster but I see most references pointing to a New Jersey address.

            Jay,

The male end picture you posted looks correct. I have a November built '69 and it has the same "brushed cap" as what you show. Your "female" end should have a similar brushed case with a GM black logo in the middle; all encased in that "rubber" sleeve. When I get my car out of storage this weekend, I'll take a few pictures so you can compare.
If I'm not mistaken, there are probably three different variations of belts designs thoughout the model year.

                Don,

Thanks for the info and offer to post some known correct pictures.

Here is a shot of the female end of what is in my car now. As you can see they are in mediocre condition but I don't want to put the money into restoring them if the're not correct for my car.

These are service replacement lap belts dated 1978 with original 69 sholder harness belts. They are the later 1969 style. Early buckles were black plastic.

                    Jay,
That is the correct female end. Before I knew of Charlie from Seatbelt Sity, I used Snake Oyl to replate my male ends. After all the years of laying on the floor, the moisture took it's toll on the chrome. They did a fine job of removing and "re sewing" it back as original. The one thing that amazed me the most was washing the belts and how stiff they were and how much dirt came out. Afterwards, the were very soft and looked almost new. Be careful around those lables becasue I believe the date stamps could wash out.
You may want to try to clean up those female ends if they still work ok; they're really not that bad. Most of it is covered by that rubber sleeve and since your cover and button look respectible, you may not need to have anything done to it. Your male ends look quite pitted and maybe you'd be better off replacing those with ones in better condition. You can still see a little of the pitting under my re-chomed ones but I would trust Charlie's experience and suggestions.

The 42nd week of 1969 is kind of late. Here are some from a December 11, 1969 car. Also kind of late in the production year. Photos are from Ralph Spears.

                          Jay,

I was out in the garage tonight and took these pics; sorry but the lighting was poor since it's still on the lift. Note the label and the buckle that is similar to yours. I'm no expert, but I believe the dates aren't judged because you can't see them under the cover and at the base of the lap belt side. Again, from a mid November 1969 car.

My thanks to everyone for helping me determine that I most likely have the original belts still in my car.

Scratch one expensive item from the list!

Dates are judged on outboard belts. All that has to be done is to gently lift the carpet behind the seat and see the date.
