What are the correct "Head Light Bulbs" for a "55"? (Oct. build date.)

      Hi! Chuck,

      Steelbacks....Really...
Someone said they weren't T-3's. Just said Guide 12V on them. No aiming points on the glass face for aming alignment.

What else were these Steelbacks used on?
I just looked at three different Vendor catalogs and don't see any repros.
Are they or have they ever been reproduced.
Is there a point loss when Judged?
      Thanks.
      Karl.

Around number #400 a true all glass bulb was used and replaced the steel backs, up to 1955 all headlights were steel backs in the GM line and some other makes. But for Corvette it changed as I said around #400. 55 Cars were the same but what number Car I don't know.Steel backs can be restored but not the later glass bulb .No one repro's them and finding a set your fighting Chevy guys for them. Just about the rarest item for a 55 Corvette to locate . I don't know the point lose.

          Hi! Roy,
I was bidding on this this pair of used headlights. Wasn't sure if they were right for my "55". So, I was somewhat cautious on my bidding. This was last night. My last bid was $37.75...lost them at a little over $38.
Looking at your headlight pictures...I hang my head...
I was going to bid a lot higher, but I wasn't sure.
          I have #627....so... I'll keep looking.
          Am I right that these aren't "T 3's"?
          Thanks Roy.

Karl ! Man that was the best buy I ever saw for $38.00 You just don't know how rare they are ,I would pay $400.00 or more for those . That's where the judging manual needs to be up dated , for years and still today it calls for TIN backs (DA!) but I'm guessing there are so few 55 left that their's little concern about 55's. The JM covers every little nut on a 54 but 55 ? So go tin backs to meet the JM they are also rare but can be found more often.

              Roy,
I just emailed you the Head light listing on ebay yesterday VIA ebay mail.
I couldn't figure how to post it here. Better off I didn't anyway.

I'm thinking I saw some steel-back head lights a week or two ago on ebay. Might have been 6V or 12V?
              Having a senior moment....I guess it's called "C R S "...
              Can't Remember S...!
I would assume old 6V lights had the Steel Lights also?

I'll be posting other questions when they come to mind.
              Thanks Roy.

So you are telling me that I am going to have a hard time finding 12V steel backs for my '46 International truck??

Here are some steel back pix. Roy is right....early 55 is steelback, "late" is the first true all glass sealed beam.

Have SEALED BEAM, with GUIDE under that designatioin. 12V in the middle. NO T-3, NO aiming pads. 6 volt steelbacks do not have 6V in the middle.

These are pix of 6 volt steelbacks
