    1954 hood latch cable

Putting together a 1954 that I didn't take apart. What is the configuration for the release cables for the hood latches? There are 2 cables and they some how attach to the single pull handle on the dash. Need some help.
    Thanks,
    Ted

Ted, I'll take a shot at this cuz I have a 67. The cable from under the dash goes to the drivers side latch, another cable connects to the pass side. You pull from the cockpit and both latches open. DON'T forget to bend the ends of the cables after setting the set screws. Bill.

Got that much but can't figure out how to attach the two cables to the pull on the dash.

No Ted only 1 cable goes to the pull handle, re read my post, another seperate cable gos to the other latch on the pass side. That cable hooks to the drivers side latch. Make sense now? Bill.

What is the VIN of your car? Early 54's used the 53 style system, i.e. there were TWO independent hood cables, one for each side of the hood.

The 54 style hood cable has one pull knob, and both cables are swedged within the knob housing in the back, so when you pull the knob, you pull both cables. You cannot easily remove or re-attach each of the hood pull cables to the single pull knob. It's pre-assembled.

Look at your choke cable. It has THREE cables swedged into one pull. Hood cable is similar.

SO..................what does your hood pull cable look like?

I don't have the vin # in front of me but it is a mid year production date car with one pull handle for both cables. If it was a preassembled unit then whoever took it apart must have just cut the cables. Since you say it was swedged together I guess I'll just have to rig it unless someone has a better solution.

I checked and I don't have any pictures of either the back of the "double pull" hood knob or the "triple pull" choke knob.

Hope somebody will post a pic for you so you can see the correct configuration. Are repro's available? Don't know.

Used to be a guy that rebuilt these. His name is Dick Moritz. Don't know if he still does it.

If both cables are not fit into one unit , they will have to be re-built, many guys out there that rebuild the units, usually runs around $75..........

Ted, original handles had no cast or part lines in them as most of the reproduction do. Gary....

The pictures from Jay's show that I don't have a complete set up. I have the pull handle and bracket, and cables, but not tube at the back of the pull handle which must contain the swedged cables.
Has anyone fabricated one of these or know were to get one?

Maybe Roy Braatz can answer your question.

Roy, If you're reading this....who rebuilds cables?

                          Ted,
I don't know how desperate you are for a hood cable set up?
Jay's Corvette Parts has one listed on ebay.
                          Item #400003562298
Go to ebay and punch the number in the search box.
He has it as a "Buy Now."
Knob doesn't go with it and needs re-chroming.
You can ask him questions about it if you're interested.
                          Karl.
