    64 coupe 327/300 preferred octane

I have a 64 coupe 327/300 automatic and wanted to know what the preferred octane for this motor would be. How about those gas additives, should they be uses?

      Allan,

I use the 91 octane premium in the 1964 327/300 engine with 10 degrees timing and have no problems what so ever. As Bill mentioned, forget about the additives.

If you are really serious about needing higher octane fuel, go buy some 100 octane low lead aviation gas or find a station that sells a no lead 100 octane racing gas and mix it with the premium fuel you normally use.

        Allan,

The additives at your local auto parts stores are a waste of money. You can buy real TEL for "off road use" only. However, you shouldn't need it. Just fill it with the highest octane available at your gas station. If the car does not knock/ping then you are wasting your money with any octane boosters. Keep in mind that octane is just an anti-knock rating and nothing more. If you are experiencing knock/ping, then you can retard the ignition timing or add some TEL. Just search the archives and you will find a wealth of information on this topic.
