C2 Power Steering Reservoir Judging Question?????

I have the original power steering reservoir for my car and it has been mistreated I want to replace it. I purchased a NOS one. The original has some #'s on the engine side, what do these #'s stand for? The one I bought for NOS doesn't have any #'s, should it? The judging manual doesn't say anything about any #'s on the reservoir.

    Thank you, David

On my reservoir, there is a large C and the opposite side there is a C12. I don't know if this a correct part as the person I bought the car from (a Corvette restoration shop owner) added the power steering to my 67 small block. Here is a photo. The C is at 10 o'clock and the C12 at 3 o'clock

Here is a scan of the 1967 power steering pump assembly drawing. The letters and numbers on the engine side of the pump reservoir is a date stamp for the most part.

I can't tell you the meaning of the "C" and the "C12" on the back of the reservoir. Possibly it was a supplier ID.

Thanks for your help. So, from what I see, if the reservoir is a replacement and wasn't an assembley it would not have the #'s on it. Does it have to have the #'s for judging, will they look for it?

        Thanks, David

I have never been involved with NCRS judging. The date code location would be on the engine block side of the reservoir and therefore quite difficult to see. I would doubt that it is necessary. However, on the 1967 pump assembly I would think that the two letter alpha code sticker should be there since it would not be too difficult to see when you opened the hood.

BTW, note that the 1967 pump drawing has the reservoir capstick which has been updated to the round, fluted, plastic type for service.

The original 1967 cap was metal and should look like this one on the 1965-66 pump drawing.

Also note that there was no alpha code sticker in 1965-66.

            Jim,
On my 67 pump reservoir, which was added by a previous owner (a Corvette Restoration shop owner), there is a stamping on the side of the pump but it is a poor stamp and unreadable. Here is a photo, is this the location of the date stamp?

I should add that I stripped this pump reservoir down to bare metal during a rebuild and was still unable to read this stamping.

That is roughly the correct location.
