Mid Year Hoods....one more time, thanks.

My '66 mid year big block has separated in the middle, supporting braces. As both are affixed together, top and bottom, there has been much discussion...glued or some sort of sealant was used. I've removed what appears to be more of a sealant (brittle after 40 + years) rather than glue from between the two pieces. Has it been confirmed glue or adhesive was used? If not glue what product mimicks the sealant used? I've seen a DAP product reccommended....any other thoughts out there. Thanks.

Best Mid-Year hood repair ... Jerry Fuccillo's approach

    Michael,

I have the same problem with the hood on my '66. I've followed the discussion board for years looking for the best solution and I've concluded that Jerry Fuccillo has the best approach and that' what I plan to do.

        Jerry

        Micheal,

There are several threads on the DB about Jerry's process. One thread from about 2 weeks ago and the original one from a year or two ago. Not sure how to find them but they are archived.

Searched the archives. Product is DAP Premium Polyurethane Roofing and Flashing Sealant.

I couldn't find the DAP product mentioned in the recent threads at my local Lowes, Home Depot or Ace stores (Omaha), but found an equivalent made by PL (black polyurethane gutter and flashing sealant) at Lowes. It worked and looks great.

Was the product paintable.....under hood black out?

It says it is, but is supposed to cure for a week before painting. I haven't painted mine yet and I'm not sure I'm going to bother.
