    2010 GS Option

    Email from NCM on the 2010 GS option-4 slide preso;

Chevy Announces the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport! It's one of the most
illustrious racing heritage Corvettes and it is returning to the lineup.
Chevrolet is announcing the new, 2010 Corvette Grand Sport today as part
of the C5/C6 Corvette Birthday Bash!

The new Grand Sport model combines the Corvette's LS3-based powertrain
with unique, wide-body styling and a racetrack-bred suspension for a
distinctive, starting grid-ready performer. It is offered in both coupe
and convertible body styles, with either a six-speed manual or six-speed
automatic transmission. The LS3 6.2L engine is rated at 430 horsepower
(321 kW)* and 424 lb.-ft. of torque (575 Nm)* with the standard exhaust
system. An optional two-mode exhaust system elevates the power ratings
    to 436 horses (325 kW) and 428 lb.-ft. (580 Nm).

i think the std ZO-6 is slow selling so they need to use up the ZO-6 parts they are commmited to buy from the suppliers and the body panels. remember when the 1999 FRC did not sell the made it into a C-5 ZO-6.

Personally, I have mixed emotions about the new Corvette Grand Sport. Yeah, it looks really nice, but to me, it really doesn't symbolize what the original Grand Sport was all about.

How do you guys feel about it??

I understand the car from a marketing perspective and also the economies of pulling most of the parts off the shelf for a unique and very quick to market offering. But it does not symbolize the original GS's, you are right. I believe the Z06 does an excellent job of succeeding the '63 Z06 car. The original GS's were full bore cars. Even before the bodies received larger fenders, bulging hoods, transplanted engines, larger Halibrands and Good Years, etc. the originals were specialized competition cars. Since that is not in line with what will make sales today the 2010 GS is a close successor to the '96 GS---only a bit more. Like with all of the other performance cars the market has changed. 'Remember when ALL Corvette drivers waved?

I would still like to order a lighter weight, HD suspension, big brake, big tank, plastic windowed, non-radio, non-AC car but those days are long gone.

If I am reading this correctly what is really significant about this new Grand Sport model is that it will replace the Z51 option. Now if you want the Z51 suspension you will have to pay much more than before. Don't get me wrong, I like the way the car looks. If I was in the market for another new Corvette I would be looking into this new model very seriously. What I don't like is that you will no longer be able to add better handling (Z51) to your Coupe or Convertible withuot the bling.

              What's next......an L-88 or a ZL-1 "Trim Package"??

I posted some more photos of the new Corvette Grand Sport on my site:

i will bet the the body will not set down over the tires like in the pictures. for some reason GM builds all their cars including corvettes to look like 4 wheel drive vehicles and can use tire chains with all the space around the wheel wells

The way everyone is talking today, will the Grand Sport be around for any of us later this year?

It looks as if the America that I knew, and the American dream that I have always strived for, is beginning to vaporize.

                    Re: 2010 GS Option

As the owner of a C4,C5 and C6 I spend a fair amount of time on the C6 forum and the 'widebody' look is what is constantly being discussed and probably what ultimately led to it being an option in the form of the '10 Grand Sport. A number of owners are doing the 'conversion' using the 'Z' rear fenders so the marketing dept. probably seized on the opportunity. Personally, I'm not a fan of the gills and badging as shown at the preview-just too much bling with the chrome and the vent gills seem too large. From what I've been able to determine, the Z51 package is only available on '10 models when you get a Grand Sport. As others have posted, this eliminates the affordable base coupe as a way to buy a 'minimal' equipped performance car, even though minimal hardly describes even a no-option C6. Having the GS model available in all colors will somewhat dilute it's exclusivity, but there will always be the odd color combo that in 20 years will be documented as 1 of 17 or something...

I started a Corvette blog on one of my websites. Feel free to post any comments that you like.

I've already made mention of the Grand Sport.

I figured I could speak more freely in a blog than in some of the forums. You can place your own posts and reply to existing posts.
