C3 carpet question

I am installing carpet in a 69 convertible and would like to know if the carpet should be installed under the decklid catches or if it should be cut out around them.

On my 69 the carpet is cutout square around the catches. They left a narrow strip about 3/4 to 1" in the carpet above the catches.

On my 68 it is different. They made a upside down u shape cut in the carpet and then shoved the leftover tab in the carpet up through the catches when it was installed.

Don't know if it was a model year change or just the carpet installers preference.
