    Cast and Chrome ?

I sent my wonderdbar radio bits to a re chromer. He completely stuffed the buttons even the long Wonderbar button. He told me he had to grind the cast metal until all the little holes dissapear so as to have a smooth surface. Then dip the shinny stuff on. Now that he has stuffed my buttons I would love to know why they can't add product to cast so as to fill the little pin holes.

I've had quite a few radio parts done and have had no problem. They are supposed to add copper to fill voids until they are gone , with buffing in between plates and then lightly chrome.................

I've used many chrome shops over the years and by fare the best I've ever seen is Sherm's in Ca. There not cheap by any means but can do cast parts that look NOS when you get the part back . They do mostly high end cars even over seas people send their parts there. My 55 chrome was done 30 years ago still looks like it was done yesterday steel and pot metal .

HMMMMMM I think I should of done a bit more research on chroming.
So is that correct you can add copper to the surface which would fill the pin holes. Is that with cast or normal mild steel.

I am sure there are some other methods now, but the old way on pot metal was to strip the part. Then grind out the pits in the casting. Apply copper, then solder to fill the pits. Then re-copper and finish the chrome process. I dont know if anyone does that any more. I see them now use the high build copper and try to fill the pits with that. It ruins the shape and dimensions of the part.

What I'm peeved about is that the buttons were pretty good to start with. I was just being fussy about the finish of my car. Now it's killing me looking at them all distorted. Stewy
