    84 Wiring Question

On the wiring diagram there is a component labeled "Diode Module". Does anyone know what this is and what it does? I am trying to get my courtesy lights to work properly and it looks like a wire or wires go to this device from the courtesy lights. This is not the delay timing module for the courtesy lights.

It would really be nice if the wiring diagram I'm using told what these devices are and what they do. Any help is always appreciated. Thanks.

    Re: 84 Wiring Question

Thanks Dave, this info is very helpful. I am having a problem with my courtesy lights. I have a quick disconnect on my battery so I can disconnect it easily while working on my car. As soon as I connect the battery all the courtesy lights come on even with the doors closed. I have also checked the headlight switch to make sure the courtesy lights are not switched on. The lights remain on and never go off until I disconnect the battery. If I get into the car, close the door, and turn on the ignition, the courtesy lights go out. If I open the door while the ignition is on, the courtesy lights come on and go out when I close the door. I am thinking the timing delay module or whatever you call it may be bad, however I have heard that there is an electronic cell that also has something to do with the courtesy lights. I have a friend who is good at working on electronics he said he could check out the circuit board of the delay timer to see if any of the components are bad. I think this device sells for about $123. Do you know the location of the device called the "E-Cell"? Also I have many electrical devices disconnected such as power windows, power mirrors, power door locks, radio, power seat controls, vanity light and glove box lamp. Do you think this could have some effect on the way my courtesy lights are acting? Any suggestions or comments are always welcome, and I really appreciate you taking the time to think about this with me. Have a great day!

I don't have the circuit in front of me, but if you have disconnected a ground in the list of items you mentioned, that very well could be causing the ctsy light issue. Better to get everything back together then troubleshoot the ctsy lamp system.

        Re: 84 Wiring Question

The problem with my courtesy lights has been corrected thanks to a firend of mine who works on electrical things. The circuit board in the delay timer had a broken solder joint and a bad capacitor. Parts cost about 30 cents.

Thanks to all for your help.

Dave, I finally located the so called "E-Cell" I mentioned in an earlier post. This is the name given to the device on the wiring diagram I am using. I don't know yet what this thing does, but I was able to find it by looking at the color or the 3 wires going into it. It is a light tan plastic container that is taped to the wiring harness with electrical tape above and in back of the radio. It is about 3 long and 1 or 2 inches wide. It has a door on the end oposite where the wires attach and contains a circuit board. I have most of my dash out, but it would probably be very hard to see with all the dash in place. If and when I find out what it does I will try to post the info. Thanks for all your help.
