    1961 Intake manifold

I am looking for a 3746829 intake manifold for a 230 HP motor. I need a date code of DXX1 (sometime in April 1961, preferably in the middle of the month. I have tried all the usual suspects, includimg the Driveline, but no luck yet.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Bill Babb

If you had been looking for one 25 years ago, it probably would have been easy to find since this manifolds was used on passenger cars with 4 barrel carbs as well as Corvette. However, by now, most of these manifolds have probably been scrapped and returned here as Toyotas, Nissans, Hyundais or Hondas.

There still ought to be some around, though. Have you tried Tracy Performance?

      Joe:
The bad news is, I have tried everyone from coast to coast with no luck. The good news is, until today. I went to Dave Sokolowski's place today for a thermostat housing and as an afterthought asked him if he had any manifolds. He said that he had a pile of them in another yard that I was welcome to look throught. The short story: I found one with a date code of D111, perfect for my engine.
I am now a happy camper, only missing about a million more parts before I am finished.
      Thanks for your reply,

        Re: 1961 Intake manifold

I recently had my 1961 judged at the Texas regional and discovered I have a 1962 intake manifold - correct date code but wrong casting number. I am also looking for a 3746829 for a late July build car.

Is Dave Sokolowski still a good source and if so, could someone provide contact info?

        Thanks.

          Ted------

If you currently have a GM casting #3783244 on the engine and it has a date code consistent with the build date of the engine, I'd strongly suspect that it's original regardless of what casting number might be considered "correct" for the application. A very late build 1961 engine with WCFB carb could have been originally fitted with the 1962 250 HP manifold, the 3783244. Functionally, the 3746829 and 3783244 should have been pretty much equivalent.

            Joe:

Thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention that the car has an adaptor plate which appears to be necessary for the carb, which is correct, to fit the manifold. I don't have the judging sheets yet but there was a deduction for the wrong studs, I believe.
