what is the trick to keep grease from getting on the front shoes second set of shoes and new seals and after a few runs on the highway grease gets on the shoes and then they pull like a mother cold to the right.grease only on the right side . Seals are felt is there an alternative ? there also seems to be a drain that is clear.I originally used the heavy short fiber grease now trying plastilube same problem any insight that i may be missing thanks Steve

Re: c 1 brakes for 61
it is very odd only the right side has the issue same seal numbers on both sides and new bearings, but they are the felt seals could it be wicking between the inside race and axle? Steve- Top

Re: c 1 brakes for 61
Steve:
Two questions:
1) How much grease are you using?
2) Are the hubs easy to rotate when assembled? If they're stiff, maybe the grease is getting hot and slinging oil onto the shoes? (This gets into bearings (ball or roller) and how you're adjusting them...)

Re: c 1 brakes for 61
Provided you're not packing too much grease into the hub the felt seal should hold. Sometime in its past could the area the seal rides on been machined down and a different seal been used on one side only? Maybe mic both sides and see if there is a big difference between the two.- Top

Re: c 1 brakes for 61
they rotate fine , the bearings are packed and a small amount in the cavity .I adjusted the bearing to I believe was 12ft lbs and backed it off a notch, the shoes till they dragged and backed off about 5 clicks, the odd part is it seems to be an issue on the right side only?both sides have the same parts and seals and the type of grease did not seem to change a thing I know it should be short fiber but tried the plastilube on a recommendation of a heavy truck mechanic Steve- Top

I would try removing the grease from the cavity.
Are you using roller bearings? 12 lb-ft is way too much preload on roller bearings. That adjustment is for ball bearings.
All I can think of...
