'58 -'62 Striker plate for door

The JM calls for plating on striker plates for door. Should it be zinc plating or chrome? Thanks in advance. ..............

I'm not sure exactly what part of the system you are looking at plating, but Zinc was seldom used by GM in the 50's-60's in any area that could be seen. Cadmium plating was the preferred application for corrosion protection, and in later years Matte Tin.

i always felt they were talking about the part of the striker that is steel and the 2 screws go through, plus the 3 screws and maybe the shims and skid plates, were cadmium plated, the die cast striker its self i,m not sure of,

I believe you are correct, the die cast portion is natural with the screws and backplate being the referenced plated items.

They went into the trash can last week because they don't fit on my 55.
No I don't have them ,I save many pic's of real original parts I see on e-bay to show people what a real first design parts look like for their Corvette, when I see some one asking about a part on this forum or get e-mail. That way you or some one can see and save the pic. So you'll know what to look for when buying. These strikers are on e-bay quite often but most don't have the rubber bumper .(car) but you can add them, you just need to know what the first DESIGN looks like. Hope you do?

Re: '58 -'62 Striker plate for door

I'm buying parts when I can through e-bay & Drive line and box them up and came upon this thread and didn't remember seeing a rubber bumper on my striker door plates. I thought they were original but now believe they are incorrect. The strikers that I have are in the black & yellow old boxes 10.569 #4664964 they are chrome plated with no rubber bumper. I remember contacting the seller asking him of the authenticity he claimed that they are correct and left it at his word. So I have chrome when there were no chrome and have no bumper when there was a bumper....so all I have is original boxes....Great!!!

Can anyone tell me if these are correct for full size Chevrolet or just toss these and chalk it up as an experience? I appreciate it.
