I only had one at my desk what are the dimensions of the lower, I believe bigger, they still would not fit through rings with an OD under 1 inch.

      I have J-5888-3, but I don't have J 7052-1 or -5. Wish I did.

I am sure the lower bushings are larger than the uppers, but I don't have either -- not at home & not at work. I was just throwing out that thought.

I would wager Phil would like some dimensions of that one -- I sure would. Looks like it could be easily fabricated.

Their purpose is to maintain the prescribed distance between those pieces of metal while the bushing is being pressed on and off.

I see one "cap" that could be used to apply pressure to the bushing, but I would have expected there to be two "caps" -- one to press on and one to press off. The two ends of the bushing are different diameters, thus the need in my mind for two different diameter caps.

But then maybe I have the whole process mixed up.

Doesn't the FSM show how to use these tools? I seem to remember some pictures with the J numbers identifying the parts.
Terry the cap is used to press in the new bushings, you use a bolt threaded in the cross shaft to press out the old ones. Phil 8063

My memory has a habit of letting me down these days so I can’t recall the specifics. I remember Gary Whiting of Quanta fame writing a how to article on making your own special tool for this job from pipe. The article was either in "THE RESTORER" or "VETTE VIEWS".

I had a look at my Corvette Restorer CD, but as usual didn’t find it so it may have been Vette Views. This would have appeared some year’s back. Better memories than mine may chime in here I hope as I’d like to find it too.
