    Washer Units For "55"

    Anyone....
Does anyone know what the true washer units look like for a "55"?
Foot pumps have a piece of rubber on the arm. But what does the True "55" pump look like?
What does the washer jar unit look like?
There are so many washer units on ebay for sale from time to time that say "For "55".
Does the late or early "55" have the same set-up?
    Pictures?
    Karl.

55 three speed used the bag unit and pump as seen here
PG 55 used the bottle and pump as seen here, the top lid in&outlet faced in the same direction on Corvette.

      Roy,
All three speeds had a bag??? Why only the three speeds?
Why after a point in construction, wouldn't all have bags?
(sound like a little kid....why, why, why...)
I guess I'm assuming that there were three speeds and powerglides
mixed in somewhere after #490 or so?
What is inside the bottle? Just one hose attached to the little unit on top
      of the lid?
Did the "53" and "54"s also have the foot pump as pictured? (shaft-knob)
      Karl.

        Re: Washer Units For "55"

It's recognized that all three speeds did use the bag because the VR had to be moved to the inner fender to clear the clutch rod .
What numbers 55's had a three speed installed is still argued .
The PG bottle top cover has just has one rubber hose going in the bottle .( the dash wiper switch 54 to 57 is like no other Corvette switch in design, no vacuum lines).
Some 53 to 54 had a foot pump and some dint using engine vacuum , when and what number I don't know.

          Roy,
          What is a VR?
I must have the most screwed "55' in existence. (no pun intended)
Really! Now I wish I could have gotten my car to the NCRS Meet in Flint, MI. in 1978. I can only hold my head in shame...
The Tech. Officials could have picked it apart then.

Dash... (I did get the Original steering wheel with it.)

          Heater Shut Off

          Dash...Different View

          There are other oddities.
This car came out of Flint MI. in 1957. Went to Bay City MI. (year unknown)
Then to Saginaw MI. (year unknown).... Changed oweners twice
before I got it, around 1975.

          Karl.

You don't have to feel like you need to hold your head in shame for any one.If any one makes a nasty comment the hell with them.
The first pic. Some one added a later shifter tunnel
The second pic some one added some car heater control
All which is not a big deal to correct , be glade you have a 55 vary few people do.
A VR is a voltage regulator , what are your plans for the 55. What number is it? Wishing you all the best ROY

              Roy,
              This is #627
VR=Voltage Regular...Got that in my head now.
I was looking for a better shot of my engine compartment. Couldn't find a better one. When the weather gets better here I'll take somemore pictures.
I thought I had a shot of the bracket the washer jar sits in. Somewhere close to the steering column. I thought under it. It's been awhile since I looked at it.
I was looking in my pictures for a view of it. Couldn't find a shot.
              Thanks Roy.
              Karl.

                Re: Washer Units For "55"

                Karl,
It is commonly believed that all 54's had the vacuum operated washer jar set up. So there's a pump in the jar. The 53's had a foot pump and a glass jar. As Roy indicated there were bags in 55 for 3 speed and glass jars for automatics.

53's used two different washer jar brackets though. The early 53's had a skinny top band. Later 53's had a wide ribbed band. This is the same bracket used through 54. I hear the glass jar brackets for 55 had two different styles too. Some believe the 56 passenger car bracket was used for later 55's and the early 55 bracket was Corvette only I think.

                  Thank You Troy.
I guess I will have to start looking for a bag set up.
                  I bought a jar-pump set-up last year.
I've seen bag set-ups from time to time on ebay, but none lately.
The jar set-ups that are on ebay show so many different styles and say Corvette. They just make everything more confusing.
                  Thanks again.
                  Karl.

What was the difference in the bracket bands between Pass. and Vette "55"?
