My 1970 LS5 with automatic has copper looking vacuum advance line and transmission vacuum line. Anyone know if the originals where copper colored or steel? thanks, Steve

Steve, the 70-72 TIM&JG (4th Edtion) Mechanical section states that on the 454 engines, the engine vacuum advance line from the carb to the solenoid was steel. It does not mention that the steel line is copper clad.

For some mid-year applications, i.e., oil pressure gauage line on a '64, where steel lines were used, such lines were copper coated.

Someone more knowledgeable of the 70 model cars will likely reply.
    Best regards,

No copper for vacuum or trans lines, I believe the correct terminology is hot tin dipped steel.

I have seen people use copper tubing because it is easy to flare and bend. But it is too soft to handle vibrations in cars and usually cracks at the points when it is fastened to the car. Saw a guy use copper for fuel lines once!
