    Intro/battery modification question

First of all, that 50234 sticks out like a sore thumb. I have a '66 coupe driver that I bought in about 1988 that I attempt to return or maintaln original whenever practical. The battery I purchased last night is a good example. I own a 57 bel air that is NOT a driver. It has a tar top battery. I cannot justify the expense of a correct battery for the '66, so I picked up a die hard at the local sears. Well, the die hard has molded brackets on the ends that accept the disposable handles that seem to come with most new batteries. Unfortunately, the molded brackets keep my battery shield from seating properly on the new battery. I have considered cutting or grinding off the brackets. Has anyone done this? How did it turn out? From searching the previous posts, I see that many use modern Delcos. Evidently, they fit properly with the battey shields.
    Thanks

I've never done it. But, yes, I've heard of people t******* the plastic tops of batteries to get the hold downs to fit better. Obviously, you don't want to cut into the inside.
