    Weatherstrip

I am in the final stages of my restoration of a 63 SWC fuelie. Hope to have it judged this June at the local Michigan meet.
When I installed the weatherstripping in the doors, I put too much 3M adhesive on, and now it shows too much.
I want to remove the adhesive, with-out damaging the paint. I am prepared to use new weatherstripping, as opposed to re-using the new, glued in one.
How can I remove the glue from the door ?

    Re: Weatherstrip

the weatherstrip adhesive utilized at the factory for the c-1 and c-2's was applied liberally and often times its presence was evident well beyond the weatherstrip itself is seen on bowtie examples. i'd let it be unless it extends beyond the weatherstrip 1 to 1 1/2".mike

If needed 3M makes an adhesive remover, part number 08984 that will remove the glue without damaging the paint. Look at some pictutes before removing as Mike said. Dale

Thanks for the quick response, I am amazed. Sure wasn't looking forward to do this job. Have plenty of other, small jobs to do.
I will leave it as it is...

        Thanks, Mike and Dale.

Rainer, I was wondering where you have been. If you do use the 3M adhesive remover read the directions. The paint should be aged otherwise you may have problems.
Grant you the general did a sloppy job putting the hood rubber and door rubber on but I don't blame you for not having a car done that looks like bubba put it together. My hood rubber on the 63 LWC is really ugly with all that glue. I plan on using the 3M adhesive some day to remove the glue. JD

Hi, John. Nice to hear from you, too. I just came out of hybernation, just like some of the squirrels, which are running around my backyard.
I am also planning to retire from Ford in the not so distant future (w/i a year
            and settle in Northern California.
I want to drive my Corvette along highway 1 from LA to San Francisco, just like I did with a 1968 Mustang GT 350, which I rented from Hertz in 1968 during a trip to California. Still have a picture of myself with the car, in Sausalita with all the Hippies.
By the way, the F.I. system works good. Just have to crank it, after it sits for a while.

I can't help you much on how it should look but perhaps this can help on how it should not look!

While it wasn't pretty, it sure was effective in an emergency

Keep smiling, stay dry and good luck with your judging.

              Cheers,

                Mike,
Thanks for the uplifting post, got a kick out of it..
Just put the weatherstripping on the hood. Used alot less than on the doors and it came out much better.
