56 Water Pump Heater Hose Nipple

I am putting my 56 motor back together and need to know the positioning on the water pump nipple for the heater hose outlet. Is the "slightly bent" nipple angled out away from the block or upward toward the top of the engine? I would think I would angle it outward, but am not sure.

Also, is it installed with any pipe sealing substance and then painted partially down near the pump or is it installed after painting?

Mark, most are bent forward towards the radiator. Gary....

Hi Mark,
Question 2; No sealant (or Teflon tape) was used and I believe it was installed after engine painting.
