    Red lights in bottom of windshield support

    While driving my '05 convertible (with power top up) a few evenings ago, i noticed the glow of a red light on my console. I found the source of the light in the underside of the windshield support just behind the left corner of the passenger visor. Upon further investigation, I discovered a second light in the windshield support behind the driver's side visor. The lights are recessed in holes about the size of a pencil eraser, are very small and appear to direct light down on the shifter, etc. I called my local dealer to find out what they are but no one there seems to know. I have looked in my manual and in schematic drawing of the interior but don't see them. My only guess is that they provide a low level illumination of the console and since they are red, are nearly invisible during night time driving. I would appreciate any other information anyone has on these lights. Thanks. Dave

    Dave,

    I also spent much time trying to locate those in the manuals & schematics for my '07 coupe. I too could not find any reference to them. Appears to be a mystery. Basically what you described is what they are for.....low level illumination of the console area.

    p.s. Our '07 GMC Acadia has the same light, only amber, directly over the console as well.

      My '08 has one in the mount for the passenger side visor, and there is reference to it in my owner's manual. No guarantee, but I would bet it is in the earlier OM also.

      FWIW: Chevrolet stopped installing the light after the Christmas break of 2007, so later built 2008 Corvettes don't have it. We will have to remember that when we write the judging manual.

        Hello Terry;

        Good one.

        Now that's thinking ahead.

        What year will they be judged?

          Rich, Terry and Ray,

          Thanks for your responses. I received some additional information from a guy with an '06. Under the section on Reading Lamps in the '06 OM, there is this quote: "An ambient light is located in the passenger sun visor clip. This light stays on while driving to keep the cabin from being too dark." I went back to my '05 OM but can not find this information in the section dealing with reading lamps. I can only assume it was left out of the '05 manual.

            Some of the newer owner's manuals (I am not sure if it goes back to '05 though) are on-line in a searchable format through links on the Corvette Forum. I have found those to be more useful than the one in the car.

            BTW: There was a thread on CF that stated the deletion of this light came in mid-January 2008 -- so I was a little off in my original statement.
